“This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.”

––Toni Morrison

VISION

At its heart, writing communicates the experiences that shape us. Writing allows us to be seen, recognized, and understood—making connections, building community, and developing relationships that sustain a deep sense of belonging.

Swan Quill West guides participants through the writing process—from idea generation to revision—encouraging people at every step to value, develop, and share their voices. Our instructional model is driven by evidence- and research- based best practices, and designed to serve the specific challenges many of our participants face. Our workshops build trusting, authentic connections and relationships, promote a growth mindset, and open the door to profoundly honest conversations beyond those that might typically occur. By facilitating a safe space for vulnerability, reflection, processing, healing, and recovery, we validate the unique and shared experiences our writers bring to the page.

Swan Quill West will pursue content partnerships and offer opportunities for publication that amplify authors’ voices and increase visibility for New Mexico’s artists.
